One of our favorite and most important parts of our professions is helping women realize their real beauty.
Too many times we come across women who are afraid to show their smile in front of the camera. They lack confidence in the fact that they are beautiful.
Our job is finding the beauty in every situation and then bringing it to life. We get to know our clients and their personalities as individuals. That uniqueness alone is beautiful. However, it’s difficult to transfer that beauty into images when our clients doubt it.
A great example of this is Dove’s “Real Beauty Campaign”. In their Real Beauty Sketches, forensic artists were hired to draw women based on their own description of themselves and then a description of that woman from a stranger. While the picture drawn from a stranger describing the subject was an accurate drawing, the drawing based on the description themselves was a strong deviation from their actual appearance.
We are using this campaign as an example to demonstrate how women don’t really see themselves the way the world sees them. Kindness, compassion, intelligence and courage are more important to true beauty than conforming to some arbitrary notion of physical appearance. Women are much more beautiful than they think.
When we get the final photographs to our clients, most are stunned at their own beauty and thank us for what we did. However, while we provided them with the proper lighting, the beauty is all from our clients. We just captured what is already there. We love telling our clients this, and seeing a glow of confidence that we didn’t see before.
When you see the hard copy of a beautiful portrait in front of you, we may have captured a beautiful image, but you are the one who provided it.
