Cloudy Skies Do Not Mean It’s A Bad Day.
Rainy and windy weather does not necessarily mean that the photoshoot can’t go on. In fact, it can sometimes mean quite the opposite.
Another one of our talented dancers had the idea to shoot with a mountain background. Her idea was to take advantage of the place we get to call home. While the weather was not exactly what we were hoping for, that didn’t stop us from creating some stunning photo.
We are hoping for some better weather the next time we shoot with Mia. Regardless we cannot wait to see what her Senior session holds.

All About Cloudy Days
Cloudy days create beautiful conditions for senior photos in Alaska. Soft clouds act like a giant natural diffuser. They spread light across the landscape. They also reduce harsh shadows on the face.
Beyond the soft light, overcast skies can create a clean and natural look. As a result, you can move freely without squinting into bright sunlight. This makes shooting in more open locations much easier. Therefore tall grass, forests, mountains, and coastal areas all work well.
At the same time, cloudy weather can add mood and depth to your senior portraits. Darker clouds can create a moody dramatic look. Light clouds produce a soft and timeless feeling.
The changing light adds even more variety. The light on mostly cloudy days can change quickly. We may start under heavy clouds and finish with a break in the sky. Those changes can create variety without changing locations.
For that reason, cloudy weather does not mean you need to reschedule. In many cases, it gives us some of the best light for senior photography. With the right location and wardrobe, an overcast day can create memorable senior portraits that feel distinctly Alaskan.
